Welcome to Animated Anthem Day, and behold…a blast of animation from the past! Here’s the introduction to Green Lantern’s segment from The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure, as aired way back in 1967 and 1968.
In these brief adventures, Hal Jordan fought foes like Evil Star (who really needs to be brought back into modern comics) through the power of crappy animation, stock loops, and a soundtrack straight out of the Filmation archives. Yeah, it looks horrible in retrospect, but it’s kitschy at the same time. Hal had only been around for about seven years at this point, so it’s nice to see him getting some early screen time.
Animated Anthem Day was the brainchild of Frank Lee Delano, the man behind about five thousand and one different comics blogs. Want to see some other cheesy cartoon introductions? Check out what my fellow comics bloggers have to say:

Perhaps not GL’s brightest day, I am still amazed how much mythology they squeezed into three short episodes.
Coolio..
I love that era.
To be truthful, I think I liked this one the least off all the Filmation intros. There’s so much lore being laid down, there’s no room for cream cheese crooning of the character name every few seconds. I guess I was just alternating-background-color/ random-’splosioned out by this point. The theme was weak, as well. I did always like how Hal pulled back from his battery to sucker punch the audience. Way to win friends and influence people, jet-jerk!
